Tucked away off a dusty road in Karen, Nairobi, is the Tin Roof Café at the Souk. It’s a gorgeous little place with floral cushions, spindly garden chairs, tin pots of wild flowers and wonky pictures on the walls.
The shelves are filled with books and board games, and large blackboards list the delicious array of food and drink on offer; from crêpes – which come with their Ottolenghi-style salads – to sandwiches, wraps, smoothies and juices galore.
Further inside there is a bookshop, a cushion/ interiors shop and a jewellery shop with delicate (and very expensive) middle-eastern-inspired gold and silver pieces. Lost your velvet bathrobe? Don’t worry, they sell them here too.
Try it at the weekend for brunch (the boiled egg soldiers are my fave), a lunch of delicious and creative salads (watermelon, feta and mint; carrot, sesame seed and orange; cucumber and dill) or for a cosy coffee with a book.
Note: cash, MPESA and card accepted, open Mon – Sun 08:30 – 17:30, Wifi available
